Socio-psychological coaching
Day-to-day support
Unfortunately, providing education alone is not enough to help Nicaragua’s street children create a better future for themselves. They have profound social and economic problems, no roof over their heads, nor any form of supervision or care. How can they possibly learn? Mpowering People helps the children find answers to their many everyday problems and sets standards they can emulate. We also provide counselling, information and training to parents and run home visit programs.
Mentoring scheme
Every child placed in the Mpowering People program is linked to a personal mentor. The mentors interact with the children on a daily basis making sure they get to school and helping with homework and support activities. They also maintain contact with the schools and work to develop a trusting relationship with their mentees to whom they grow to be a big sister, brother, or older friend.
Parent training
Mentors visit parents on a regular basis, arrange peer coaching and offer child rearing training. They also help parents tackle their myriad problems at home and at school and organise monthly meetings with all the parents in their area.
Special projects
Special projects are planned initiatives aimed at helping the children learn life-skills such as confidence, communication, discipline, respect, fair play and teamwork. These
projects not only boost the children's ability for self-care, self-reflection and psycho-social development, but also strengthen the bond between our team, the parents and the street children.
